Thursday was a good day for the markets, but while the exchanges did not hit new highs they are easily within striking distance. Crude oil was up again for the session marking the third consecutive positive day. The S&P 500 sectors were more or less split down the middle. The best performing sectors were energy and financials up 2.2%, and 0.9%, respectively. The worst performing sectors were utilities and real estate down 1.2% and 0.4%, respectively.
Crude oil was up 0.3% at $58.27.
Gold was up 0.2% at $1,271.60.
The S&P 500 stock posting the largest daily percentage loss ahead of the close Thursday was PG&E Corp. (NYSE: PCG) which traded down about 13% at $44.43. The stock's 52-week range is $41.61 to $71.57. Volume was 52 million versus the daily average of 6 million shares.
